The Coalition's Program Goals for 2000 are:
The Coalition proposes to utilize the strength, enthusiasm and infrastructure of the local community organizations to begin building a grass-roots movement to pass local laws protecting LGBT communities-city-by-city and county-by-county. Implementing this Civil Rights Initiative may mean working to pass hate crimes or non-discrimination laws at the city or county level. Or it may mean working with activists so a large local employer adds domestic partnership benefits to an employee plan. It can also mean working with youth to address unsafe schools or anti-youth businesses. Local communities will decide their own project focus.
We are anticipating being able to begin working with two or three of New Mexico's strongest, most prepared communities each year, for the first few years. The components of this Civil Rights Initiative are training, outreach and education to build a sustainable movement.
