Guiding Principles [We want to acknowledge the Kentucky Fairness Alliance for developing the original guiding principles from which these were modeled.]
The Coalition for Equality in New Mexico is a Federation of gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transgender (GLBT) and allied organizations from throughout New Mexico, which supports full civil rights and an end to discrimination in all forms for all people.
We recognize that the GLBT community is very much connected to most areas of public policy. We also recognize that our struggles for an end to discrimination and to achieve full participation in our communities involve building coalitions with like-minded individuals, organizations and movements. Further, existing in a politically and culturally diverse state, we understand that our identities as LGBT people are ultimately connected to our identities as people with very different backgrounds and experiences in regards to issues including but not limited to; race; class; gender; gender identity; political affiliation; age; and ability. We will support fair-minded public policy that will have a direct or indirect impact on our community/constituency, and will utilize the following principles, which will guide and hold us publicly accountable as we organize to create lasting change. next
